7th Grade Girls Travel Basketball Butler Sinks Game Winner Shelby Butler sank a 3-point shot early in the first quarter to start the Bulldog’s scoring. Butler ended the scoring for the game by dribbling the entire length of the court and dropping in a running 5-foot bank shot with less than 10 seconds to play. The thrilling come-from-behind 25-24 win over the Robbinsville Rage kept Hopewell’s 7th grade travel team undefeated in Central Jersey play and tied with Ewing for the League lead. This was a true “team win” as Hopewell’s leading scorers Sami Yusko, in foul trouble for most of the game and Kara Hageman, sidelined with an injury in the third quarter, played sparingly in the second half. Hopewell’s aggressive defense and scoring by Butler and Erica West sparked a 7-1 lead for the Bulldogs after one quarter. Tied 11-11 at half time, the lead changed hands on each score during the second half. Hopewell’s Amanda Winand knotted the game at 20-20 before Robbinsville opened a 24-20 lead with 1:40 left in the game. Aided by Robbinsville’s inability to seal the game from the foul line and dominating rebounding by Haley Citrone and West the Bulldogs were able to hold the Rage at 24. With less than a minute to play West hit both ends of a one-and-one and Butler sank another freethrow to cut Robbinsville’s lead to 24-23. After two more missed freethrows by Robbinsville and another clutch rebound by Citrone, Butler sealed the deal for the Bulldogs with her game winning shot.
